You do not have prices written down anywhere — you price by feel and hope it adds up. Kordless can help you design a consistent price book from scratch. Read this page to finish with a publishable Book in Test mode.

Your situation

This path is for you if you have no price list at all — no spreadsheet, no PDF, no website prices. If you already have a price list, start from start from a price list. If you price from memory and experience, start from quote from experience.

How this path works

Instead of importing a file, Kordless asks you a short set of questions about how you want to price — what you sell, how you charge, and where the gray areas are. It uses your answers to design a first Book, which you then review, calibrate, and verify. This page shows the exact steps with a real example.

The example we follow

Bright Wash is a new mobile detailing service. The owner, Sam, has never written prices down — he charges by feel based on the car and the condition. He has a list of services in his head but no numbers. We follow Sam as he designs a Book from scratch. Where you see Sam, do the same with your own services.

Steps

1

Open Book start

From your workspace, click Book in the left navigation, then Start a new Book. You will see three starting methods. Choose Help me design my pricing — it says answering a few questions builds a first model for you.
2

Tell Kordless what you sell

The first questions are about your services — what you offer and how you describe them. Sam answers with his services: wash, interior clean, full detail, and a premium ceramic package.Answer in your own words. You do not need perfect wording — the draft will show you exactly what was captured and you can correct it in Review.
3

Answer pricing questions

Kordless asks how you want to charge — by the job, by the hour, or by vehicle size. Sam answers that most work is by the job, with an hourly rate for big jobs.Questions marked Required to publish must be answered. Others can be skipped. Each question explains what it affects — coverage, safety, price, or policy — so you always know why it is being asked. See Answer questions.
4

Review the designed draft

When the design is done, the status changes to Needs review. Open Review in the Book menu. You will see every rule as a plain-language sentence, such as:
  • “Full detail price is $220.”
  • “Trucks and SUVs add $60 to the full detail price.”
  • “Hourly work is $70 per hour.”
This is your chance to correct anything. The numbers Kordless proposed are starting points — change them to the prices you actually want to charge with Edit, and add anything missing with Add rule. See Review the draft.
5

Calibrate with example jobs

Open Calibrate. Kordless generates boundary cases — jobs where a small detail might change the answer, like a large SUV with heavy dirt. For each case, pick the outcome you would actually quote:These cases are where most of the learning happens — they turn your feel for pricing into explicit rules. See Calibrate scenarios.
6

Verify the statements

Open Verify. Every material rule must be explicitly verified before it can reach a customer. Read each statement and choose Verify. The Book cannot publish while any material rule is unverified. See Verify Statements.
7

Preview and publish to Test

Open Preview & publish. The preview shows how the Book compiles and any remaining blockers. When there are no blockers, publish to Test. This does not reach customers — Test is your sandbox.Sam publishes to Test and sends himself a few sample quotes before moving further. See Preview and publish.
8

Go Live when you are ready

When you are confident, open Preview & publish again and publish to Live. The environment indicator in the top bar changes to Live. Only now can quotes reach real customers. See Test and Live.

Completion check

  • The Book status chip shows Live (or Live · changes pending if you edited after publishing).
  • Review showed Ready to publish with no blockers before you published.
  • Every material rule was verified.
  • You published to Test first, tried sample quotes, then published to Live.

Stuck? Start here

That is exactly what this path is for. The questions ask about how you charge (by job, by hour, by size) — not for exact numbers. Start with rough numbers you are comfortable with. The Book drafts prices from them, and Calibrate is where you correct them based on real jobs. You can change every number before it ever reaches a customer.
Open Review the draft and correct the rules with Edit. You can change any price, add rules, and remove rules before the Book can publish.
Only Required to publish questions block publication. For anything else, skip it and continue. You can answer more questions anytime. See Answer questions.
Publishing to Test is a separate step from publishing to Live. Open Preview & publish again and choose Live. See Preview and publish.
