## Getting started

  <Accordion title="How long until I can quote a real customer?">
    Most owners publish a Book to Live within a few days. The path is: create a Book, review the draft, answer questions, calibrate with example jobs, verify the statements, publish to Test first, then publish to Live.   <Accordion title="What is the difference between Test and Live?">
    Test is your free sandbox — you can draft, review, calibrate, and try sample quotes without any real customer data. Live is where real customers and data live. A Book cannot send real quotes until you publish it to Live. You can switch between them from the environment indicator in the top bar. See [Test and Live](/product/getting-started/test-and-live).

  <Accordion title="Which starting method should I choose?">
    Choose by how you price today. If you have a price list — spreadsheet, PDF, photo, or website — use **Import existing pricing**. If you have nothing written down and no idea where to start, use **Help me design my pricing**. If you know what a job should cost from experience, use **Explain how we quote**.   <Accordion title="I am not technical. Do I need help to set this up?">
    No. The whole product is designed for owners who run a shop, not for IT. Every step in the docs shows what you should see when you did it right, and a "stuck" section if something does not match. Start from [Your situation](/product/scenarios/overview) and you will be guided through each step.

## Books

  <Accordion title="What is a Book?">
    A Book is the complete, verified record of how you price — plain-language rules extracted from your material or your answers, reviewed by you, calibrated against example jobs, and verified statement by statement. See [Book overview](/product/book/overview).

  <Accordion title="Can Kordless really read my price list?">
    Yes — you can upload a spreadsheet, PDF, or photo, or paste text. Kordless extracts the pricing into plain-language rules, and you review every rule before it can go anywhere. The extraction is transparent: every rule shows where it came from. See [Import pricing](/product/book/import-pricing) and [Provenance and authority](/product/reference/provenance-and-authority).

  <Accordion title="I have no written prices. Can I still use Kordless?">
    Yes. Two paths work without any price list: **Help me design my pricing** builds a first Book from a short interview, and **Explain how we quote** captures how you price from memory. Both produce a draft you can correct before it ever reaches a customer.   <Accordion title="How do I change a price after I have published?">
    Open the Book and start a change. You will see a proposal, review and calibrate it, check the impact preview, and publish it. Customers keep seeing the Live version until you publish the changes. See [Update the Live Book](/product/book/update-live-book).

  <Accordion title="What happens to quotes made with the old prices?">
    Quotes keep the Book version they were created from, with a pinned derivation you can replay. Existing offers are not silently re-priced by a new Book version. See [Versions and replay](/product/reference/versions-and-replay).

## Quotes and customers

  <Accordion title="How does Kordless come up with a quote price?">
    The Book calculates the offer deterministically from the customer's requirements and your verified rules. Every quote shows the derivation — the rule-by-rule table of how the amount was produced — and can be replayed exactly. Kordless proposes; you approve, adjust, or decline.   <Accordion title="The quote is wrong for this job. What do I do?">
    Open the quote and adjust it. You can correct the price, and if the Book has a wrong or missing rule, a learning proposal is created so the Book improves. You are always in control of what the customer sees. See [Approve or correct](/product/quotes/approve-or-correct).

  <Accordion title="Can my customer get a quote without calling me?">
    Yes. You can send a hosted quote link, embed the quote flow on your website, or use the API. The customer enters their requirements and receives an offer, with the derivation shown. See [Customer surfaces](/product/workspace/customer-surfaces).

  <Accordion title="What if a job is too complicated to quote remotely?">
    You can mark it **It depends** or **I would not quote this remotely** during calibration, so those jobs route to review or an in-person inspection instead of producing a price. See [Calibrate scenarios](/product/book/calibrate) and [Understand outcomes](/product/quotes/understand-outcomes).

## Commitments, holds, and deposits

  <Accordion title="What is the difference between a hold, a booking, and a deposit?">
    A hold keeps an offer open for a time window. A booking is a confirmed reservation of time. A deposit is a payment the customer makes to confirm the booking. A Commitment records the accepted offer plus whichever of these apply. See [Holds, booking, and deposits](/product/commitments/holds-booking-and-deposits).

  <Accordion title="When does a hold expire, and what happens then?">
    A hold expires at the deadline you set. When it expires, the offer is released — the customer can no longer accept it at that price. See [Expiry, release, and handoff](/product/commitments/expiry-release-and-handoff).

  <Accordion title="Do I have to take deposits?">
    No. Deposits are optional and per-quote. If you prefer plain bookings or just holds, you can use those instead. See [Holds, booking, and deposits](/product/commitments/holds-booking-and-deposits).

  <Accordion title="After the customer pays a deposit, what happens?">
    Kordless records the commitment state and hands the result to your operating systems — it does not schedule the job, send invoices, or track the work. That is your boundary. See [After commitment](/product/product-boundary#after-commitment).

## Billing and access

  <Accordion title="How much does Kordless cost?">
    Pricing depends on your plan. You can see plans and manage billing in [Usage and billing](/product/workspace/usage-and-billing). You can try the full workflow in Test before deciding.

  <Accordion title="Can my employees use Kordless too?">
    Yes. You can invite people and control what each one can do — administrators and members have different permissions. See [People and access](/product/workspace/people-and-access).
